The Association of Camden Council Leaseholders

ACCL  was set up 9 years ago as a pressure group committed to getting a better deal from our Landlord, Camden, over the maintenance and  repair of our homes. We aim to  achieve value-for-money service, improved consultation and costing of Major Works projects.

Membership is open to all Leaseholders of residential  properties in  the London Borough of Camden.

Some of the ACCL's recent successes are:

  • Advising leaseholders of their rights not to pay the March 2000 service charge which was issued more than 18 months late. Camden sent the March 2000 service charges to leaseholders well over 18 months late and accepted payment from those leaseholders who were not aware that the law states any service charge invoice sent beyond that time is not recoverable. The ACCL advised members of their rights in this matter.

  • Insurance issue.  ACCL succeeded in forcing LBC to refund to Leaseholders an overpayment in premiums

  • Taking a delegation to the Council Meeting on April 14 seeking a resolution to the inappropriate billing practices of Camden to its leaseholders.

  • Obtaining general legal and technical advice for members.

  • Developing a file of standard legal letters which members can use.

  • There are now roughly 500 individual members and 12 affiliated Recognised Tenants' Associations.

  • Open meetings are held at the St Pancras Community Centre 4 times a year .
  • Membership monies are used solely towards fighting for our rights, obtaining professional advice and communicating with members via a quarterly Bulletin.
  • ACCL operates an Advice Line which members can call for help with specific problems.
